Rom-com remake of a classic TV series, in which Ferrell plays a celebrated actor on the downward trail. When a role comes up to star in a film version of hit series Bewitched , he thinks his luck's in, providing he doesn't get upstaged by his leading lady. Enter stage left young Samantha (Kidman) a novice actor who shouldn't steal the limelight but of course she does, because even though she is playing a witch, in fact she really is one, even though she'd rather not be one and when her nose twitches, weird things begin to happen ..
Its difficult with Bewitched not to feel that even though there are moments when both Kidman and Ferrell get a chance to show what they can do, much of it falls flat. Overall Nora Ephron's romantic comedy, like a few of her previous films, lacks a real punch and sense of the offbeat that would have made it a good deal better. Luckily talented actors like Shirley Maclaine (whose surname seems like an anagram of the next actor) and Michael Caine, are on hand to give able support, but the result is still a misfiring concoction that doesn't make the most of the talents on offer.
